Chiropractic care typically breaks down into a couple basic categories: routine manipulation and periodic adjustments. During manipulation care, the chiropractor spends several minutes manipulating the spine or other parts of the musculoskeletal system. This type of care is common with patients who use chiropractic care as part of ongoing treatment for chronic physical conditions and pain. Regular sessions are intended to provide temporary relief from pain.
The adjustment part of chiropractic care includes instant adjustments to the neck, spine or pelvis. Back and neck adjustments are sometimes used to help a patient recover from an injury or single event. Chiropractors sometimes recommend routine, periodic adjustments for clients to prevent problems from arising. Pelvic adjustments are used to correct misalignments after accidents, or that develop over time.
